World Animal Day 2008
WAD_main.jpgOn Sunday, the East Coast Park is a popular destination for pet owners, and the area of tents set up by the SPCA was full of them on 5th October.

World Animal Day kicked off quickly. Dogs socialized around us as PAW set up our Whale Shark exhibit. Children attempted the quizzes on whale sharks and more than a few came away with glowing reports.

The black t-shirts we had for sale were snapped up - passer-bys were attracted to the appealing whale shark motif and the "Save the Whale Sharks" slogan. We chatted with the people and it seemed that many felt dismay at the plight of the whale sharks. A few kind souls liked the T shirts so much they bought them for their whole family.

It might have rained around noon, but the emcee kept spirits high, and the owners had reason to get excited because the Best Kept Pet contest was underway. Onlookers feasted their eyes on exotic breeds like the Samoyed, a majestic white dog from Siberia.

There was even an appearance by MTV VJ Utt. The well known entertainment figure looked tired, but he was all smiles when he signed SPCA posters for the eager crowd. He even stopped by our booth to take pictures in his very own whale shark tee.

With Utt gracing our booth with his presence and a compliment from the head of the SPCA Deirdre Moss on our good sales, it was a memorable World Animal Day indeed. Memorable, also, thanks to the many adorable animals that we saw trotting about, brought by their proud owners, some of whom dressed their pets up and posed them for photos with the onlookers. We're looking forward to World Animal Day 2009 already!

SMU-YWCA Childrens' Day Outing!
SMU-YWCA-small.jpg Besides animals, PAW loves children too! On 27th September, we brought a group of 20 children from Young Womens' Christian Association of Singapore (YWCA) for a Childrens' Day outing. The day started with a visit to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) animal adoption pound. The children were happy, of course, to see so many dogs and cats and to have the chance to play with them. Admist all that, they also asked very important questions. Simple, but important. "Why are the animals here?"

Irresponsible and selfish pet owners, I was tempted to say. But that would be sweeping. The SPCA trip turned out fruitful, we taught them to be kind to animals and to be responsible pet owners in the future. After that, we headed back to school for Macs lunch and to watch Madagascar - an interesting and funny cartoon that teaches children that animals belong to the wild and captivity can drive them crazy. Then, we took some photos, gave them a pretty goodie bag and we said our good-byes.

So, what do children and animals have in common? Well, for one, they're really adorable and innocent. And although they can be naughty sometimes (okay, a lot of times), you know you can count on them to express love with abandon - love for everything, big or small, young or old, human or animal.

Launch of Noah's Ark CARES 2009 Calendar
NA-Cal-Small.jpg Dear Friends, Supporters and Well-Wishers,
Buy a Noah's Ark CARES 2009 Calendar and help support the animals at our Sanctuary.
For the year 2009, we feature stories of HOPE, from the graceful Lady, to her puppy Prince, industrial dog Truffles, Benji and many more - read about their stories and how they have found HOPE . . . and HAPPINESS! All the dogs featured in our 2009 calendar have found both love and their forever homes. Unfortunately this is often not the situation and fairy tale endings are hard to come by. However we'd like to start the year afresh with THE ARK OF HOPE by showcasing these fortunate dogs  and we pray that with the coming year, more fairy tales will come true, for the animals and all at Noah's Ark. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for giving them HOPE. Without your support and belief, our work with the animals would not be possible.
