Animal Day 08
poster-animalday-thumb.jpgEvery dog has his day – literally in every sense of the word for some participants of an event organized by an animal welfare group from Singapore Management University (SMU). Not restricting to just canines and owners, SMU Animal Day 2008 is a celebrated day for pets from all walks of life. This year’s event will be held on the 8th of March, Saturday, 1pm to 6pm in SMU’s Campus Green.

In a nutshell, SMU Animal Day is a free event organized by People for Animal Welfare (PAW) club and it is a day of carnival-like fun and games with a strong emphasis on educating students & the public on the importance of animal welfare. In addition, it will be a time to reflect and appreciate our pets for bringing us joy and comfort in our lives. Animal issues would be raised to remind and refresh people’s minds on how important animals are to us. ligned with the government’s move to promote a more gracious society, PAW believes that animals have the unique ability to bring out the better side of humanity.

To kick off the day of fun-filled entertainment, there will be a various competitions in which pets will be given the opportunity to show off their hidden talents, be it Frisbee catching feats or simply being well-groomed, there will be a time to shine for everyone. Competitions include Obstacle Challenge Competition, Best Groomed Pet and Best Talent with generously sponsored prizes from Pro-plan, Pawtobello Café and many other merchants! To spice the atmosphere up further, Singapore Kennel Club will be present to showcase their trademark performance of Dog Obedience Show and Lucas Bong, a Certified Competitive Dog Trainer will on hand to demonstrate Dog Frisbee and K9 Dancing performances. With the various activities and competitions lined up, participants and audiences will definitely be treated to an unforgettable experience!

Amidst the entertainment, SMU Animal Day will also be a learning experience. Amy Corrigan, Director of Research and Education from Animal Concerns and Educational Society (ACRES) will be delivering an educational talk on their efforts to create an ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC). Also coming down would be Lance Tan, an accredited dog behaviourist who will be holding an interactive session with participants. From solving simple questions such as “Why won’t my dog listen to me?” to tougher questions such as “ What kind of tricks can I teach my dog?”, participants can be sure of an interesting dialogue session.

For those who wish to pamper their pets, merchants like Pawtobello Café, US Doggie Bakery, Petsmomo & Pets Cetera will set up booths for the crowd to indulge in cute clothes, toys and doggie treats. Well-known brand names like Pro-Plan & Solid Gold, will also be on site to offer its premium pet food that enhances the life of pets and their owners.

SMU Animal Day ‘08 is one of the largest school-organized events this year and it is indeed an event not to be missed! Kill two birds with one stone -- take this opportunity to learn something new about your pet and allow him/her to make some new friends! So come! You’ll have a barking good time!
